MENG NVMe SSD Controller

The DERA 2nd generation NVMe SSD Controller “MENG”, which is designed for enterprise and data center environments, achieves high reliability, high performance and big capacity features.

The MENG controller supports NVM Express (NVMe) specification and customized protocol like open-channel. Built-in multi-core CPU and flexible NAND management interface, support mainstream domestic and international NAND flash. The MENG controller provides dual-channel DDR interface, delivers high I/O bandwidth with low latency.

Advanced LDCP ECC algorithm extends SSD endurance and uses less flash while ensuring high data reliability, helps customer to reduce TCO (Total Cost of Ownership). Built-in multi-core CPU provide flexible choice which help developer to customize software to meet key-business requirement in enterprise and data center.

FEATURES

ECC and Data Integrity Protection

The MENG controller’s built-in LDPC ECC engines provide powerful error detection and correction ability, support hard-decoding and soft-decoding with 2KB code length, improve correction ability and ensure high reliability while increase data retention time and extend SSD endurance. Each NAND channel has its own ECC unit, ensure sustained low latency and high I/O bandwidth when multiple channels parallel accessing. Besides NAND LDPC protection, the MENG controller also provides ECC protection to external DRAM and internal SRAM, and whole end-to-end CRC data path protection. In some cases, NAND may occur uncorrectable error, especially when NAND going to the end of lifetime. To ensure data safety and keep high I/O performance, the MENG controller provides hardware RAID acceleration function. Under the control of firmware, multiple NAND Dies build adaptive RAID group, help to recover data base on other Dies' data within the RAID group when uncorrectable error occurs.

Flexible Design

The MENG controller provides flexible design options, developer could customize software to reach the balance among cost, power and performance. With target requirement and product definition, developer could make choice at NAND channel number/ capacity, DRAM channel number/ capacity, DRAM ECC on/ off, DRAM and/ or NAND interface, till getting an optimized solution.
